Start/Stop Embedded Capacity

This guide helps you link the BI Portal to your Power BI Embedded Capacity using Microsoft Azure, enhancing data access and management.

Create an App Registration for Stop/Start of Power BI Capacity

In the Azure portal, create a new app registration.

App Registration

Provide a name for the app and select the 'Accounts in any organizational directory' option.

Important Information

  • Note the following details:

    • Application (Client) ID

    • Directory (Tenant) ID

Secret Value

Create a new token and secret. Be sure to note the Secret Value, as it will only be shown when created.

Assigning permissions to the Start/Stop App Registration.

Inside of your newly created App Registration, select the API permissions tab, and add the following permissions.

  • Azure Service Management ( user_impersonation )

  • Microsoft Graph ( User.Read )

  • Power BI Service ( Capacity.ReadWrite.All )

Necessary Details

Once setup is complete, provide the following details to the BI Portal team for final integration:

  • Start/Stop Application (Client) ID

  • Start/Stop Directory (Tenant) ID

  • Start/Stop Secret Value
